I received a Masters of Science Degree in Oriental Medicine from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. I am licensed by the state of Wisconsin and nationally certified by that National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I have undergone additional training as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist with the national organization; National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).

Prior to studying acupuncture and Chinese Medicine I spent several years in Molecular Biology research. Following my Bachelors Degree, I found I wanted to work more closely with people. In addition, I discovered through my work and study that maintaining balance in all forms of life is essential. I truly believe that Western Medical Science and Eastern Tradition Medicine are quite complimentary and provide for not only health, but wellness in the individual and our society.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the idea that balance is fundamental to maintaining wellness. By using the principles of acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Formulary this balance can be maintained or a body returned to balance following injury or illness. By approaching health in this manner, a medical system for prevention is established.

I hope to bring balance and wellness to my patients, thereby offering a means to less or no pain, less illness and an over all sense of health and happiness.

General info:

The cost of an acupuncture treatment is $60. Cost is negotiable for those with economic need. Cost of herbal formulas or other products is additional.

A treatment lasts about an hour. To monitor progress and allow the practitioner the information to provide the best care, each session will involve some discussion. The acupuncture needles are inserted and then left in place for about 20 minutes. Many patients will be encouraged to take Chinese Herbs in order to better treat their unique situation. Additionally, dietary advice, suggestions on self care and exercises are commonly provided.

Additional therapeutic techniques utilized are:

Massage: the Chinese technique known as tuina. Tuina often involves acupressure on certain points following an acupuncture treatment.
Guasha: a technique that utilizes a small ceramic tool to rub against an area of pain. This method releases the tension in muscles and the build up of metabolites from over use or damaged tissue where an injury is present. This is particularly useful in acute injury or smaller areas.
Cupping: a technique that utilizes glass cups that are placed on an area with suction. This method is similar to the Guasha in its effect. It differs in that it can be particularly useful in chronic pain and tension, and is useful on larger areas such as the back.
